Things to Do in Glasgow This Autumn
You can already feel it in the air – the turning of the seasons, as we prepare to say farewell to the ‘summer’ and welcome in the autumn… which is kind of omnipresent here, let’s be honest. Suddenly the evenings are getting darker that little bit earlier, and we all mention this to each other as if it’s an anomaly that we don’t experience each and every year at the same time. We always seem to be taken by surprise and easily amused by weather chit-chat in the UK. It’s one of our endearing traits, of which there are many.
So, now that we’ve got that out of the way—what are we all going to do with ourselves in Glasgow this autumn? Start prepping the garden before the colder weather arrives? Do a bit of DIY on the weekends? A wee spot of decorating to freshen up tired walls or make the house nice and cosy for the winter? Start on those home improvement tasks in preparation to sell your property before the end of the year? If none of those sound even remotely appealing, here’s a list of slightly more interesting things to do in Glasgow this autumn.
A Luxurious Evening at One Devonshire
Now, it may seem somewhat excessive to suggest staying at a fancy hotel in the city you live in, but it can be just as fun and rewarding as going away somewhere further afield, which will usually cost more and involve a few hours of travel. It’s nice just to treat yourself every so often and enjoy a night of luxurious relaxation in a beautiful hotel, even if it shares the same postcode as your home.
Hotel du Vin—or One Devonshire, as it’s more commonly known—is situated in Glasgow West End, on a stunning tree-lined terrace that runs parallel to Great Western Road. You’ll often find locals enjoying a meal in the bistro or a glass of wine in one of the sumptuous lounges, so it’s a place that is regularly frequented by residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods as well as international guests. And it’s dog- and child-friendly, too, so you can take along your furry companions and/or children.
This charming boutique hotel has a small selection of room packages and offers, our favourite of which is ‘Settle in Sundays’. By spending £75 in the bistro, you can get your room for just £50! Another great offer is Champagne and Stay, which includes a bottle of champagne, an overnight stay, and an exquisite breakfast for just £165. Just imagine cozying up on a luxurious velvet sofa in front of a roaring fire, the dog snuggled up at your feet, and a lovely sommelier pouring your favourite glass of wine. Perfect for an special autumn treat.
A Weekend of Yoga
A couple of days practising yoga will do you more good than a week away in the sun, and you’ll come away with a lasting understanding of techniques to help you maintain more balance in your life. There’s a whole host of daily classes and workshops at various studios around Glasgow. One that caught our attention is A Weekend of Yoga with Jambo Truong, which is being held at Merchant City Yoga on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th October. You can choose to attend both days or just one.
During the workshops, you’ll discover new techniques to use in your own yoga practice and in daily life, helping you to release tensions and negativity, break useless patterns, and improve general wellbeing. You will also learn new meditations and a brand new approach to poses that will be hugely beneficial to your yoga poses and movements in everyday life.
Spa Day at Blythswood Square
Oh how we do love a spa day. It’s just the best thing to do to lift the spirits and feel great, especially in the colder weather. The 10,000-square-foot full service spa at Blythswood Square Hotel is located in Glasgow city centre and is open daily to the general public. It offers a range of luxury, holistic face and body treatments, and it also has two relaxation pools, a thermal suite, a lounge, and a cafe area. The ideal place to escape for the day and rebalance the mind, body, and spirit! Absolute bliss.
Get Crafty at The Wheel
Why not hone your creative skills with pottery lessons or a workshop at The Craft Pottery studio in the city centre. You can go on your own, with a friend, with the kids, or arrange a private party for you and your pals to drink some bubbly, paint crockery, and/or throw some clay—ideally on the wheel and not at the walls. At the end of it, you’ll be a master painter or potter (maybe, maybe not) and you’ll have something lovely (depending on how well you do) to take home and use for years to come (or hide at the back of a dark cupboard). However you fair, you’ll have fun at the very least!
Jump Around and Flip Upside Down
Trampolining is not only one of the most fun things to do in the entire world (well, we think so), it’s also a great way to keep fit and get rid of stress. You cannot take yourself nor anyone else seriously when you’re jumping up and down on a giant bouncy floor—it’s simply impossible. Ryze Glasgow is the ultimate trampoline park in Glasgow, located on the south side of the river close to the city centre. With over 18,000 square feet of world-class trampolines, including angled walls, launching decks, foam pits, and 16-feet-high basketball hoops, you can jump around to music (with club nights at and live DJ sets at the weekends) until your heart’s content. It’s seriously good fun, no matter your age.
