Ho ho ho, it’s that special time of year again! There are plenty of local events in Glasgow this December to get you all in the Christmas spirit and ready for Santa Claus coming to town, here’s a selection of our top pics.
Byre’s Road Christmas Makers Market
Still got some Christmas shopping to pick up? Shop local and find something a bit different at the Byre’s Road Christmas Makers Market being held at Hillhead library on the 9th Dec. Entry is free and expect loads of stalls from clever local crafters selling their unique wares, from handmade toys and toiletries to wood crafts, jewellery and foodie goodies. Whether you’re shopping for your granny or the work secret Santa, you’ll find something for everyone.

The Glasgow Vegan Christmas Festival
Vegan Connections take on Christmas at The Glasgow Vegan Christmas Festival being held at The Briggait on 9 Dec. A must-do for any veggies or vegan friends, or anyone curious to explore some Christmas dinner meat-free alternatives, there will be carol singing, mulled wine and handmade gifts for sale, as well as loads of delicious vegan treats to sample. Festivities will continue over the road at Mono café bar for an evening gig featuring singer-songwriter, Rachel Sermanni and band Randolph’s Leap, so why not make a whole day of it.

Wreath Making Masterclass with Festive Lunch
Get crafty and Christmassy whilst learning the art of wreath making at this masterclass held at The Grosvenor Café and lead by Nicole Dalby from Nicole Dalby Flowers. You will learn how to make a merry Christmas wreath all of your own to take home, selecting your own colours and materials. Following the workshop everyone will enjoy a three-course festive lunch with a glass of mulled wine, all included in the price. Invite family and friends to join in a lovely, cosy afternoon of crafting and sampling some delicious food too. Advanced booking required as spaces are limited.

The monthly Feast End Festival is back at the Barras market this month, this time with a festive twist for Christmas! Head to the east end for this family and dog friendly event, showcasing a variety of local street food traders and farmers market stalls. Vendors will be serving tasty sweet and savoury treats from their pop up tents and food trucks, with plenty of space to relax and catch up with friends in BAaD’s Backyard space, plus at the bars and plenty of seating available within the venue. This free to attend event is unticketed, just round up your friends for a great day out and to enjoy some truly unforgettable food – it’s Christmas after all!

Oran Mor’s Christmas Panto – Cinderella 2: I Married a Numpty
Oran Mor’s regular event, A play, A pie and A pint take on a pantomime with a difference for the festive period – Cinderella 2: I Married a Numpty! It’s the classic tale with a big dose of Glaswegian humour, following Cinders’ life after the ball, when reality hits and Prince ‘Kelvie’ Charming turns out to be a real mammy’s boy! With appearances by Ugly Sister ‘Wan-tooth Winnie’, dame ‘Aunt Etta’ and the heartthrob ‘Buttheid’, this is a non-PC panto that will have big kids laughing out loud during an hour of festive frolics – tickets selling out fast! Over 16s only.

Ashton Lane Hogmanay Street Party
Once Christmas is over it’s all about Hogmanay! Why not head around to our neighbours on Ashton Lane for the annual Ashton Lane Hogmanay Street Party 2017, in association with Whitley Neil and bigger and better than ever! Wrap up warm and head out to the lane to enjoy an evening of yummy food, drink and entertainment from ceilidh band pipers and DJs, all under the lane’s twinkling fairy-lit canopy in the heart of the West End – plus a few surprises on the night too! Tickets cost £25 and are on sale now.
