Easter Holidays in Glasgow West End

Well, it’s not long now until the Easter holiday, and apparently Spring is on the way. If you’re lucky enough to have a few days or a week or two off this April, you may enjoy some of these Easter holiday activities in Glasgow West End. We’ve made sure to include something for everyone, including children, families and adults alike.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Synonymous with iconic characters such as Batman, Superman and X-Men, Frank Quitely is the alter ego of world-renowned, Glasgow-born artist Vincent Deighan. He created this alias during his early career whilst drawing for the Scottish publication Electric Soup, and now we’re lucky enough to be able to experience the largest collection of his work ever displayed – an absolute dream for any comic book enthusiasts in Glasgow.

Visitors to the Frank Quitely exhibition at Kelvingrove will enjoy original artwork from titans of the comic book industry, including Frank Millar, Neal Adams, and Batman creator Bob Kane. In addition to the comic art, you can discover the incredible process of drawing a comic page through the use of digital interactives. You can even create your own superhero costume and get your photo taken with Superman flying overhead! We’d like to say this latter highlight is great for kids, but we have a sneaking suspicious that it’s the adults in the family who will be most excited about this.

Riverside Museum

There’s a whole host of events on at the Riverside Museum over the forthcoming weeks. In fact, there’s always plenty of things to do there, it’s great. Here’s a small selection of some ideas to keep the kids entertained and bring out their creativity.

Fairground hanging mobiles: A workshop where you will learn to construct your own hanging mobile, taking inspiration from the colourful fairgrounds.

Ship to Shore: Be inspired by luxury sea travel of the Anchorline Posters of the 1920s and 30s in this fun printmaking workshop.

Air Balloon Adventures: An opportunity for the kids to construct their own air balloon decorations to hang in their bedrooms.

Easter Bunny Cards: We all remember how much fun it was to make our very own cards when we were children – though we may not have been quite as talented as we like to remember! This is a great little workshop where your kids can create hand-made Easter bunny cards for their friends and family.

Easter Fun Weekend – RSPB Nature Reserve Loch Lomond

On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of April, why not take the whole family out to the RSPB nature reserve at Loch Lomond for a day of springtime walking adventures, nature crafts, and a chocolate egg treasure hunt in the woods. A lovely way to spend the easter weekend, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and fresh country air.

Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre, Kelvindale

The Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre in Kelvindale functions as a building-based arts centre. It features its own studio theatre, a library and multimedia room, a mask studio, display gallery, puppet-making workshops, and cafe.

This holiday, enjoy an Easter Eggstravaganza with Alex the Magician, who will have the kids laughing and smiling with magic tricks, balloon modelling, Easter egg treats, and puppet and mask making in the cafe after the show.

Easter Wonderland Show – The Quay

Over 20,000 balloons will be used to create a magical Easter Wonderland at The Quay from 4th -17th April. A fabulous family day out, which includes a walk through the giant balloon garden, a ballon making workshop, a magic show, and an easter egg hunt, face painting and sand art.

Jimi Hendrix Re-experience – Oran Mor

We’re not sure if it’s a good idea to include this one, because we don’t want the tickets to sell out before we snag some for ourselves! A strictly kid-free event on Saturday 15th April, enjoy a awe-inspiring performance by Neil Wilson, Hugh Cox, and Nicholas Blythe (aka Hugo Stealthcat). Recreating the incendiary guitar legend of Jimi Hendrix with outstanding technical brilliance, raw power, and unwavering appreciation, this members of this tribute band are musical geniuses in their own right.
