2017 Interior Design Trends
With each new year comes new styles and trends in the design world. In 2017, expect to see lots of vibrant green hues, butterfly wallpaper, mixed patterns, natural materials and luxurious upholstery. Cool white and neutral interiors will forever be a classic style that appeals to many, particularly when selling a residential property, but this year we’re moving towards nature through the use of warm colours and raw textures. We’re saying goodbye to shiny white metro tiles and hello to matte terracotta and brick.
The nature of materials
Cork is making a return and will feature as a functional wall covering in the kitchen or home office, as well as a base for stools and coffee tables. Velvet-upholstered headboards will replace the previous trend of wooden frames, and industrialised and burnished metals will take over from highly polished brass and role gold.
Blonde Scandinavian-inspired wood will be replaced with darker stained and raw timber finishes. The popular marble-top counters we’ve seen over the past few years will be forsaken for earthy textures like clay and unprocessed stone – handcrafted and simplified surfaces that provide a new talking point in the home. Think tactile, rustic and organic materials softened with hints of rich, sumptuous upholstery.
Colour trends
As our lives and homes become increasingly modern and high-tech, the interiors of 2017 will see a move away from smooth and clinical to warm, soothing and restorative. Muted earthy tones, in addition to darker shades of green, are set to rise as the colours of choice for interior walls, furnishings and accent pieces. Raw and tactile aesthetics will be combined with natural colours, flesh tones and vegetal shades. These earthy colours provide an opportunity to neutralise the over-digitalisation of the private sphere and create a sense of harmony and safety in the home.
